Terry Pratchett is wicked cool. Maybe on May 23rd I shall read Nation. And the books that come after Wee Free Men. And all the other forbidden books. In fact maybe I'll make a big pile of non-acedmic non-literary canon books and just role around in it...

Ah...TP...

Nation rocked! He couldn't have written a more cogent thesis on his world view if he tried. He and I sit next to each other either side of a very thin fence called faith.

Bless him, I hope he can keep writing for as long as he can. What a wonderful author and a great man.

Ah, but do you like comic fantasy though? The City Watch novels are CLASS; they are mainly TP's treatise on how silly politics and law can be and everything would be so much better if we all followed our common sense and acted a bit more like Sam Vimes...

Would now be a good time to confess that I named my son after Sam Vimes? Does that tell a story?

DH wouldn't let me name my daughter Esme though......If I had another daughter (which I have no intention of doing, actually), I would have to put my foot down.

Jo is right, the city watch books are probably the best, in particular "Thud" which has a brilliant way of discussing modern-day racism without actually mentioning it....

There has been a lot of advances in Alzheimer's disease research recently, let's hope some significant treatment becomes available soon so that Terry can carry on writing....and of course for all the other sufferers in the world too!

I can't get on with TP at all. I really should like his stuff - it's right up my street. Phoenix keeps telling me that it's because I keep trying A Colour of Magic and I should just skip that one and go to the better ones later in the series, but that just feels wrong Rolling Eyes

I'd agree, I would say skip Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic as they're not "typical" TP. Not only that, but the beauty of Pratchett is that, although his books are linked, you don't have to read them in order per say.

Definitely skip colour of magic and move on. Try 'The Truth'. It's very sharp, very funny.

Hehe, being a journalist, let me just say that The Truth isn't too far removed from the realms of reality Smile Another good insight into the world of journalism would be Pratt of the Argus, by David Nobbs.
